I wasn't sure about this place at first. I tried the foods and it was amazing. We ordered the curry chicken and brown stew chicken express plate. Corn bread and Mac n Cheese must have it! I will definitely go back again if I'm in the town.

I'm pissed I spent $28 for awful oxtail which were not seasoned and jerk chicken had no spice. They slow as hell too!!!

The food was excellent. We had the oxtails and curry chicken with rice and peas with cabbage. I'm just visiting, but I will definitely be back when I come back to visit.

Went to this establishment for dinner and got the Jerk Chicken. The chicken was cooked really well, it was very tender and I enjoyed eating it, but I expected it to be spicy. Maybe the jerk seasoning they use isn't spicy, but every jerk chicken I've ever had was spicy and that was a disappointment for me. I had the chicken with white rice which was also decent. Fried plantain, for one of my sides, was very good. The cabbage, for my other side, was also good. All in all the meal was pretty average, though I would probably go back. The prices were decent and the staff was very friendly. Forgot to mention that they messed up my wife's side order so double check with the employee before finishing your order.

Had the curry goat and jerk chicken. Both were super delicious. The lady who helped us was also very nice. Price was cheap for the amount of food we got.

First of all, I have to say that anyone complaining about slow service must have been either very impatient, or having a bad day there. I went today for lunch, and only waited a few minutes for my to-go order of curry chicken and corn bread. So, the corn bread was nothing but plain, I think I make better corn bread, I only tried it because the reviews kept mentioning it, but it's nothing special. The chicken was ok, but nothing out of this world either. I'm giving this 3 stars because it was edible, cheap, and fast, but I doubt I'll be going back.

The jerk chicken and curry goat was bomb. It was flavorful and fairly priced. I'd advise against getting the dumplings because it was dry and kinda stale and go with the plantains instead. Keep in mind the salad is basically a cheap mix of lettuce from any local grocery store. I was really hoping it would be some exotic blend of vegetables with a Jamaican twist. Not too much seating is available, but it was rather empty on the day we showed up. I did like the wall art and assortment of snacks and beverages.

Went on a Tuesday morning right after it had opened. Was greeted by Dancehall music and a very nice cashier. At that time in the morning only the Chicken Curry and one other dish was available for purchase. There was also a batch of freshly made patties that were available for sale. I took my stash of chicken curry and two patties to take care of a few errands and felt solid for many hours. I can't wait to go back for the oxtails This isn't a very high end fancy type of restaurant but it has great prices and makes me want to visit Jamaica.

Wow, tasty and fair prices. I would have preferred my dishes to be slightly spicier but it was still tasty and would please the general public. The jerk-chicken could have used more sauce but was juicy. The rice with beans was spectacular as the curry goat.

The food is good but the service is slow. I find myself saying this often in Daytona. But when I order ahead and they tell me 10 minutes, I expect my order to be ready or almost ready when I arrive. This is my econd time here and both times it is the same type of slow service. It is not some place I will continue to frequent because of the poor service. It doesn't make sense when the place is practically empty and my food still takes over 20 minutes or longer. Not when I called ahead and placed my order.

The last time we ate there they were out of the cornbread which normally comes with the meal. I found myself not liking my chicken curry as much as previous times. It was saltier and just not up to what it was previously. Still a great place.

being from Miami, I was excited to finally see a jamaican spot. I ordered a patty and it was dry as hell! And the oxtails were over seasoned. The cabbage was good. Took forever to bring out the food. Nothing gourmet about it. Looked like they cook the food at home and bring it to the store. Wont go back.

Ok, let me start by saying that I was amazed by the five stars for a little restaurant here in Daytona Beach so I decided to give it a try. WOW, this place was amazing. Great food - I had the chicken curry and my friend had the goat curry and there was nothing left on the plates. The chicken curry was that slow cooked goodness that can't be duplicated in the chain restaurants. It was served with beans and rice and there were options for Corn Bread (GET THIS SIDE), Mac and Cheese or Cabbage. We didn't try the cabbage but everything was great. Prices were good, we had two dinners and two drinks and the bill was 28.00.

I was amazed that I had not found this place sooner, despite its hidden location. I found Tropical Gourmet strictly by accident, stuck it a line of traffic. The Jamaican flag that covers the restaurant sign in the half abandoned plaza, intrigued me immediately. Authentic island food isn't that common in our parts, so I invited a couple of friends and went to try it. The plaza where it's located is a bit neglected, and filled with abandoned business storefronts. The restaurant is tucked in a corner close to the Bingo hall. As soon as we entered, the aroma of the food instantly transported us miles away. The decor enhanced the island feel. There are some traditional beverages and food available for retail purchase. The menu is incredible. You find options like ox tail and goat curry amongst chicken, fish and beef options. Very reasonably priced and hefty portions. The food is ordered at the counter and then delivered to your table. Plenty of Jamaican soft drinks available. The ginger beer was great! I got the jerk chicken with rice & beans, corn bread, and fried dumpling. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the meat just peeled off the bone without any effort. Smoky and spicy. My friend had the goat curry and loved it. This is mainly a take out restaurant but don't let that fool you. There are about 5 tables and we seemed like we were the only ones dining in. Completely worth it. A Daytona gem for sure. Can't wait to return again.

If this is good food like your mom used to make, then your mom can't cook. The rice was mushy and tasted like water. The oxtails were just as flavorless. The mac and cheese (which is not a traditional Jamaican dish) was greasy and surprise surprise... Flavorless! The one star is for the cornbread which was pretty good.

"... come fah irie food lacka your mom dweet" !! Years ago I visited Jamaica for a working vacation. I was shocked at the use of spices and the way food was prepared that is only authentic from the Island. The piece de resistance were the curry goat, braised ox-tails, Jerk meets (a way of darkening meets on grill with various spice and spice marinades) and the darkened seafood, always accompanied by the fancy beverages (e.g. cream coke, carrot juices) and the sweet aroma of bakery and fresh coconut. I was spoiled by the affectionate friendship of a local Grandmer (aka grandma), a colleague's mother who was cooking daily for his grand family: flavors were very pronounced and distinguished without being overwhelming, meats fell off the bones to melt in your mouth and the over present accompanying bean rice was delicious while somewhat typically toasty and crunchy... I waited for my fourth visit to this little place hiding in Daytona suburbia before writing a proper review. Family owned and run, since 1993 when this place opened, food here gets prepared fresh, daily, in the authentic Jamaican way! A very kind and talented Jamaican staff will serve you both selections from the daily batches and the cooked to order menu choices. When I say daily I mean it: I had to be back twice for the curry goat because it was finished, two days in a row, and when I did... In one word: outstanding !! I went in skeptical, not at all impressed by the neighbor and the condition of the plaza in which this place yet thrives. As soon as I walked in I felt like transported back to the Island: the blend of colors, people, attires, the atmosphere of this little jem, really just a little more than a hole in the wall, is in itself suggestive. The quality of the food is amazing, as if made from Grandmer: Stew meats, Curry chicken and goat, darkened fish, Jerk chicken, braised Ox-Tails... each individually were an intense experience that left me almost wanting for more each time, were it not for the sumptuous size of the servings, which would tame any kind of hunger. I particularly appreciated the care even for the size veggies and the bean rice, that was quickly toasted before serving. Although meant mainly to be a take out Kitchen, the restaurant offers a few tables to sit and enjoy your meal if you happen to be with a few friends. So, if you'd like to try authentic Jamaican food, deliciously pure and simple, search no more: this is a place that will have you come for more, time and time again ! a review by the secret chef

I can't believe I have missed this place for the last 15 years! Outstanding Jamaican food. Don't let the location or the surroundings fool you, this is the real deal. We went (a party of 3) and had curry chicken, garlic shrimp and curried goat and everything was outstanding. Large portions and tasty sides (cabbage, sweet plantains, and rice and beans. A good selection of Jamaican beverages and the traditional American ones too! I definitely will return to try the Jerk Chicken and other dishes!
